Theater & Performing Arts
Since 2009, TERI's Theater and Performing Arts Program has provided a safe environment and adaptive options for performers with neurodiverse disabilities to develop their self-expression, build fine motor skills, improve articulation, increase emotional and sensory awareness and experience greater joy and quality of life within a positive and inclusive community. We showcase our performers’ gifts via original live performances in our onsite Bornemann Theater and local community theaters, as well as entertaining local schools and assisted living facility audiences with outreach education focusing on abilities awareness. From the grace of wheelchair ballet to improvisation, from puppetry to pirate games, TERI weaves a rich tapestry of skill and confidence-building while ensuring that, above all, our performers have fun.
The Bornemann: A Stage for Creativity, Connection & Community
The 200-seat Bornemann Theatre provides an exciting new venue for TERI Players productions as well as working professionals to debut new works and play host to special events for the greater community. Weekly class instruction and exercises include music, singing/sign language, pantomime, storytelling, character development, magic tricks, and an understanding of stage terminology. Drama techniques are successfully used to teach life skills and model real-life situations through role-playing. While practicing movement, body, and spatial awareness, our performing arts students also gain self-confidence and expand their capacity to effectively communicate, often without words, with the world around them.
