From “I Can’t” to “I Can”: Nick Finds His Confidence
Nick’s path with TERI began with exploring his interests and strengths. Early on, he showed a natural ability to take initiative, solve problems, and lead—qualities that made a culinary internship a strong next step.
In TERI's Vocational Internship Program, Nick began to build not only practical skills but confidence in himself. At first, even something as simple as baking a cake felt out of reach.
But with the support, encouragement, and guidance of his job coach, Nick pushed past his doubts—and succeeded. That moment became a turning point, proving to him that he was capable of more than he had imagined.
Beyond the kitchen, Nick experienced growth in an even more personal way, according to his mom. “For years, he faced challenges when it came to making friends and building meaningful relationships. Through his internship, he learned how to connect with others, communicate, and form genuine friendships—skills that have transformed both his work and his daily life.”
Today, Nick is putting those skills into practice as an official busser/server on the TERI Common Grounds Café team, an achievement that reflects how far he’s come.
